The perfect, Electro Motive (EMD), E9 shot!
Sometimes you just happen to be at the right place at the right time. Back in the summer of 1990 I recorded with my then new video camera the Burlington Northern's Electro-Motive E9 units in commuter service while I could before their retirement. This was a three (E9s) for the price of one shot. Just as the westbound double header clears, the eastbound EMD E9 comes into full view. I couldn't have been luckier if I had tried! Thanks for watching this short clip! To watch the entire video this segment came from, click on this RUclips link from my channel: ruclips.net/video/uX2dJ5t3ooY/видео.html

Hudson Hornet & Hudsons, 1990, CBS story with Dan Rather.
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
A 1990 story by CBS on the international HET (Hudson-Essex-Terraplane) Club annual meet being held at Wichita, Kansas in the summer of that year. Then CBS news anchorman, Dan Rather, introduces the story. Most Hudsons seen here are the Hornet. But, if you look closely, you may be able to spot a Wasp, Super Six, Commadore, Pacemaker Jet or even a1930s Essex Terraplane. By the way, bet that book ...

This video, recorded Oct. 2, 1996, mid-afternoon, is of the waning days of the former Milwaukee Road Railroad (Soo Line/Canadian Pacific) hump and classification yard at Bensenville, IL (15-17 miles west of downtown Chicago). The VHS tape pretty much captures the sights and sounds, especially from a locomotive engineer's perspective, of a typical day of grabbing long cuts of freight cars, pulli...

A nostalgic, westbound, sunset trip in a 1988 Mercury Cougar down E. 11th St. in Tulsa, OK recorded in June 1994. In an earlier period, 11th street was Oklahoma U.S. 66 through town. Interesting to note how fewer SUVs and pickup trucks were on the road back then.

I worked for Midway Airlines for two years up to the time they went under. I worked in their data center. I really like working there although some of the people in I.T. were not all that great. I did learn a new computer platform and was able to fly free on my off time. When they shut down they owed me nearly $700 bucks in back pay. Once everything was settled I only got $17 bucks. It was a fun job while I stilled lived at home. Good memories.

The sound of that engine scares the H.E. Double Toothpicks out of me! 😮 I know, I know. I'm not naive, I've flown on first generation 747s across the Atlantic Ocean and some the sounds would scare me also (I was around 8 years old) The landing gear going down when you weren't expecting it is one. Sometimes breaking after landing sounded like worn brake pads scraping on metal to metal. The feel of the speed breaks when it was getting ready to land freaked me out. I forget which G.E. engine on modern planes are the ones that sound awesome. They also made engines on s lot of older Boeing models, I want to say 727s that sounded awesome. But this engine, the entire trip sounded like someone was strangling geese with their bare hands! 😂 But really, it lacks thar " Bass Sound" that puts me, and I'm sure a lot of people at ease because the engines sound strong and healthy! This one doesn't. And I'm sure these engines are awesome, strong and healthy. It's just that the sound doesn't calm me. 😂

This is a tragedy that is way beyond imagination and way beyond sad , Even though this happened before I was born , My thoughts and prayers go out to all the fallen and injured victims My dad used to work for Gulf oil and one night he was watching a disaster documentary on some of the worst disasters that happened in the world , The Texas City disaster was profiled on the show and my dad called me to the TV set and seeing that footage , I was totally stunned and speechless and the narrator of the show said that officials were suspicious that it was caused by a discarded cigarette aboard the SS Grandcamp , My dad was stunned and speechless too and he taught me about how to handle and store gasoline and other flammable materials and the show made me realize how terrible a gasoline fire is This is definitely worse than the Chicago fire back in the late 1800s They were saying that the death toll was around 600 people dead but I'll bet it was over 1000 because of the intense fires , I'll bet that alot of bodies were literally creamated , The death toll in the Chicago fire was around 300 and it took at least a week to get the fires put out I felt really sad that all those innocent people had passed away and many others were badly injured My dad kept reminding me that they're in a better place , In God's heaven May God's love always be with all the fallen victims and their families and friends , Especially all the firemen , Rescue workers , Doctors and all the rest who rendered help God bless all of them for what they went through on that tragic day and that they will never be forgotten I pray that a tragedy like this will never happen again

I agree Midway Airlines was indeed "a cool airline" having flown on it several times back in the 1980s. I once flew Midway from Midway airport to Des Moines, IA. Des Moines was "completely socked in" due to fog. The captain got on the intercom and asked the passengers which alternate airport they'd like to go to for the night, Kansas City or Minneapolis-St Paul? K.C. won out. The airline put us up in individual rooms at a nice Hyatt Hotel near the airport and also paid for our dinner that night. The next day's short flight to DSM was uneventful.
